The Amazon Rain Forest accounts for 60% of the world's forests, making it the largest forest in the world. However, it is in danger because 17% of it has been destroyed, and a further 17% has been greatly degraded. - The Amazon rain-forest is one of the great ecological wonders of the Earth. It is a living, breathing system. It is a forest that creates its own rain, through a process called evapo-transpiration. This affects local precipitation patterns.
- Yet, its reach is truly global...What happens in the Amazon does not stay in the Amazon, through the rivers of the skies (atmospheric rivers) elements of the “great lungs” of the Earth travel around the world.
