Reforestation and Green Belt Reinforcement Project – Bankim, Adamawa Region, Cameroon.
For the past five years, our team has been working tirelessly in Bankim, in the Adamawa Region of Cameroon, to combat the advance of desertification into the savanna through reforestation and the strengthening of the Sahel Green Belt. So far, we have successfully planted more than 1,000,000 trees, contributing significantly to soil restoration, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience in our region.
However, one of our biggest challenges remains wildfires during the dry season, which have unfortunately destroyed several reforested areas. In response, this year we have launched an Early Warning System for Wildfire Detection and Response. Through this initiative, we have:
To make this system work, we rely on the use of cellular devices, especially old smartphones that can support communication apps like WhatsApp and Signal. Thanks to the generosity of community members, we have already received over 30 donated phones, which are now being used to protect our environment.
We are calling on everyone who can to donate any old smartphone that is no longer in use. Your contribution will help us improve our fire detection network, safeguard thousands of young trees, and protect our shared environment.
